I remember the last time I spoke with Howard, I believe it was at the last reunion. Who knew it would be the last time. He was telling me how his father grew up in the area and that he lost his father (Howard's grandfather) quite young.  And now this. What a shame. Very nice guy too. If anyone knows the family, please send them my sincere regrets.   Ron

I met Howard in Biology class with Ms. Charles.  We formed a friendship that continued throught the years and while we did not see each other often after graduation, when we caught up, it was like we had just spoken the day before.  Howard ran Cross Country, indoor and outdoor track at PHS.    As a result of him running indoor track, I managed the team our Junior and Senior years. His life long love of physical activy stayed with him and later, after he stopped running, he became an avid cycler.

An example of Howard's fine character was presented to me in Biology class. Mrs Charles had assigned a very involved research paper regarding the animal kingdom where we had to use her system of note taking, index cards etc etc. We got to choose our animal. Howard chose monotremes ( egg laying mammels) because he got the sign up paper before I did.  I was left with some creature I was not interested in all. Howard, being Howard, switched with me so I could research the   duck billed platypus and the echidna.  We even did our research together, with him learning about something that  had no appeal to him.  He never complained.  He was as gracious at the age of 16 as he was throughout his life.

I have  many more Howard stories.  I won't bore you with them all.  We have suffered a major loss this past weekend.  We are lucky we have his twin Barbabra Chessler to share our respective recollections with and support.  May his memory be for a blessing.

If my memory serves me, I met Howard and his sister Barbara at Milbrook Elementary School after leaving Saint Charles Borromeo in Pikesville. Howard and I took a few classes together at Pikesville, including wood shop. I always enjoyed Howard, and will always have the fondest of memories. Thee are number of memories that come to mind. Of course, I enjoyed running with Howard in gym class. He was incredibly fast, and I suppose motivated me to improve in the 440, where I finally managed to hit 67 seconds. I also remember how Howard met his wife. He told me that he met his wife at his bank while making a deposit for Chessler Framing, the family company. These are but a few of the fond memories that I have of Howard.

Both Howard and I passed the CPA exam together, and also went to Johns Hopkins for graduate school. Howard was an avid cyclist, and spent years perfecting his sport. He was always incredibly fit. That said, I still cannot believe that we have lost Howard. I think of him often, and am left wondering how we could lose such a fine person at such a young age. I last spoke with Howard just before his passing to inquire about re-framing my CPA certificate. Howard's company frames most of my diplomas and professional certificates. Due to moister in my home office there appear to be some damage to a few of my certificates. Howard mentioned that he could re-frame the certificates, but his company does not have an expertise in retoration. This conversation was just before we lost Howard. He never once mentioned that there was any health issues, or anyting that I should be concerned about. Can you imagine? I guess that was just our Howard. I was concerned about damage to diplomas and certificates, while Howard had very little time remaining among the living. That experience certainly put things into perspective for me.  Today is Howard and Barbara's 62nd birthday. May we all think of  Howard fondly today, and find comfort in knowing that we will see him again in the presence of God Almighty.
